Million Trees Project
Million Trees is a SYNE Foundation initiative, designed to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, led by UNEP and FAO. With the Million Trees initiative SYNE Foundation is targeting 100 million new trees every year for the next 10 years adding additional 1000 million trees to our ecosystem.
The 100 million trees will remove 5 million tonnes of CO2 from our atmosphere. It means 120,000 hectares restored. We have to plant 10 billion trees to offset 12 million hectres lost in the Australian bushfires in 2020.
How Million Trees Initiative works?
We are bridging reforestation champions, academia, corporates, local councils and governments to create an opportunity within a purpose-driven digital space. This will be the first-of-its-kind online community for the reforestation agenda, enabling more effective dialogue and collaboration to support successful and exponential reforestation action on the ground. We will work to raise the level of ambition and spending from business, governments and philanthropists, and provide guidance to turn that ambition into action.
